Una noche: My love with language
I just decided something today. Something I couldn’t even decide yesterday. As you know, I love learning languages. I do really love it because it’s the best thing to study about. I feel like going inside a new world when my mouth pronouncing new words of one whole new language. I feel like bursting with curiosity how the people who’s speaking this language look like or what do they do usually? The more I study, the more questions rise up in my head. How’s the weather there, how’s the food and how’s the culture?
So, I’ve been in love with French since I was 8 years-old. Thanks to Zinedine Zidane, the Le Blues successfully championed world cup 1998, and me, who contained with football, decided to be France supporter. What’s next is me falling in love with French, after listening to Zidane’s speech in 1998. I decided to learn some words as “Bonjour” and “Comment allez vous?”.
The degradation of Le Blues’ performance didn’t degrade my love to this so called most romantic language in the world. Even when I was in Japan, I joined the French club to learn how to speak it properly. However, the schedule of the club didn’t really match with my lectures and other school-related stuff. Then it still left me with no better than “Bonjour” and “Comment allez vous?”
One thing I found surprising is how I can switch my love from the extravagant and deluxe French to an exotic language called Spanish. Today, I decided to study Spanish with my friend through books, songs and movies. Why? Because we couldn’t afford any real classes, it’s expensive, and the schedule might not fit anyway. She’s working and I will leave Indonesia on March. So why don’t we study by ourselves instead? Movies and songs sound like a real fun!
When you have somebody to study with, everything seems easy and fun. It’s not only recent-decided Spanish, but also my Arabic. I’m studying Arabic from Qur’an with mom and her teacher. Although we just translating word by word from Qur’an, we feel no pressure and enjoying every minute of the class. We guess the words from the verse read by the teacher and later picking up some grammar pattern from there. For the conversation, I might have to watch some movies or listen to some songs, which will be fun!
So, people, wish me luck with my attempt to study these languages. I have this crazy dream to be able to speak 5 languages, or more :P I might try Chinese or back to my first love, French again someday. Who knows?
Many people said to study language perfectly we really need to go to that language-speaking country. However, we can’t climb a stairs without taking the first step. So today, I took my first step of learning this las lenguas más exóticas del mundo, Spanish, by listening to this.
Enjoy!
